Lors d'éruption majeures du geyser Steambot, le bassin de Cistern Spring se vide. Les pins aux alentours du bassin thermal de Cistern Spring subissent l'action de cette source thermale, la zone étant inondée d'eau riche en silicates depuis 1965. Les éruption de ce geyser ont cessé en 1890, pour reprendre un siècle plus tard, le 14 septembre 1985, pendant 47 heures. Personne ne sait quand surviendra sa prochaine éruption...
